Words: Our Peace, Our Joy, Our Future
Our words can affect our peace, our joy and our future. The Bible says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue; And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21) Words are not the only thing that can have an effect on our life. The decisions we make in life have even more weight and if it does not match the faith-filled words we speak, it becomes dead. For the Bible also says “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” (James 2:26) However, there is an important correlation between our words and our actions. Our words are a product of our thoughts and our thoughts in our mind are often what move us to create or stop actions. Therefore, our words can impact and often reflect the decisions we make.
If we pay close attention, we will see clearly that the power of words are evident. When one speaks negative words it begins to change the atmosphere immediately. We must be very careful with idle talk. The Bible says, “For let him who wants to enjoy life and see good days [good-whether apparent or not] keep his tongue free from evil and his lips from guile” (1 Peter 3:10). To be clear, this message does not say that we should avoid dealing with problems and discussing solutions. It is important to address negative situations in order to bring about positive change. Nevertheless, continue to involve your faith as your foundation. The good news is positive words have just as much impact as negative words, if not more. Let God’s WORD of life fly you through adversities and soar you high like a butterfly. Change the atmosphere purposefully with His LIVING WORD and let us aim to make a conscious effort as Christ followers to watch the words we speak. “He who guards his mouth keeps his life, but he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.” (Proverbs 13:3)
